It was during this game that Ffred threatened to quit rugby on the grounds that no-one passed him the ball, and when he finally got it people flattened him because he was big !!

DUNSTABLE, November 9th
These games were played late, after the Wales/England World Cup Quarter Final, and seemed to inspire Ffred though, sadly, nobody else.

Ffred had a go at playing outside half, with Robert Friend at scrum half.
He got a lot of the ball, running with dipped shoulder at other players exceedingly well. He also laid the ball off well on the ground and passed rather more than others.

Harpenden, November 30th 2003
Two good wins. Harpenden did not like going forward after the first five minutes when MK made it clear that they could tackle hard. Although Harpenden had possession they were pushed backwards by MK so that in the end they just wanted to pass the ball to anyone regardless of where or who they were.

January 18th, 2004. At Harpenden
Game switched to Harpenden owing to state of MK pitch. Three games played, much closer than last time.

Three good games, with Harpenden much better than last time. Ashley able to run at Harpenden at the beginning and break clear. Then they played it tighter but his early tackling was very effective. Missed Ollie as the ripper but, after some coaching by Stuart, others began to see the way to get the ball off opponents. MK's runners still have the edge. Ffred looking more and more like a back row forward !! Some work by the Diaz boys very good  -  twins !!! John, as always, up for it, and some good runs and tackling by Robert Friend till cut by some studs looking more like football than rugby.

Bletchley, Sunday, February 8th, 2004
Off to Bletchley, who still don't have an Under 9s team, so three games against Bicester. Good side, lots of players. Two teams effectively.
Ffred scored the first try, left hand corner after good run. HT score.
Then Bicester hit back with two second half tries. After the second, at resumption, Ffred made a break in the middle and passed to Ashley who scored just on the final whistle.

Tries from Claudio, two corkers from Matthew down the left touchline, two from Ashley and a long run from Alex Egan showed the difference between Bicester A and B. Wonderful ripping by Ollie throughout this game, and the others too.

The boys were tiring a bit, with far fewer players than Bicester. Ashley scored a superb solo try but Bicester won it in the last seconds with a somewhat questionable try in that it looked like a foot in touch to me.

February 22nd, 2004. Playing Rushden at St Paul's School.
Playing here as MK pitch out of order.
Six tries by Ashley (who obviously had the hump!!) blew Rushden apart. Claudio scored two crackers and Ollie scored too. Rushden man on touchline with camera said it was just a walk in the park for MK  -  Rushden not used to treatment like this. Ashley scored first five tries. Awsome !!

More of the same. Ollie showed he can run fast and scored three tries. Ffred scored three, including one from the off when I think every Rushden player thought the ball would go to Ashley. Ffred just scythed through. And Ashley scored as well.
Good day. Lots of people played well. Danny was as tough as nails, Robert did really well and Harley was a revelation.
Bit of bad stuff as John, Ollie and Ashley mixed it with ~Harry~ from Rushden. Our boys are really up for it. Roll on Nottingham !!

March 7, 2004. Peterborough/Kibworth
Back to Peterborough, scene of success in the past.
Tries from John Marchbanks (after good passing sequence) Matthew (a great run down the left and slipping two tackles) and two from Ffred. Once he breaks the line it's all over. No-one seems able to catch him.
Peterborough B     0     MK   20

Great game. Wonderful scrummaging by Ollie and tackling from John.
Carrie played but was not sure what to do in this fierce contest. Kibworth had big players and won with last second try. Ffred missed tackle after coming on for last few seconds as Carrie came off.!!
Kibworth     5        MK      0
Tries from Robert Lawless and Ashley. Super tackling from Robert Friend. Dias boys really up for it after long morning.

Overall good tackling and hard work all round. Kibworth game probably shows what's in store at Nottingham.

March 28th, 2004. To St Paul's School for home games against Watford and Northampton Men's Own.
Funny game with MK looking a little out of sorts, especially with Nottingham looming. Both NMO tries scored directly after restart, with the second having a choice of FOUR players to go over the line and MK all bunched. Tries from Ffred, Ollie and Ashley right at the end. He flattened the boy who was giving high tackles throughout the match. Ref did not know about the handoff rule  -  makes you wonder !! Ffred had a high tackle and a dead neck as well as his neck used as a climbing frame.

Try from Harley, two from Gareth Price from the U10s (it was a mix n match team), a corker from Robert Friend probably running from his own half, and Ffred again.

Harley, Gareth (2), Robert Friend, Ffred
The first match of the morning was a mix~match MK U9s and 10s against Watford Under 10s with a good try from Ollie. God knows why but U10s rules were played (contested scrums) and the Watford Boys in the front row were huge.Genetically modified ??!!

overawed in their next game by an excellent Dunstable side which went on to win the competition. MK suffered many injuries in a fair, but robust encounter. MK 0 Dunstable 20
